Can Wegovy interact with my antidepressants?
Wegovy (semaglutide) does not have a direct pharmacological interaction with most commonly prescribed antidepressants. It can usually be taken alongside SSRIs such as sertraline or fluoxetine, SNRIs, or bupropion under medical supervision.
The main consideration is blood sugar. Semaglutide can lower blood glucose, and the risk of hypoglycaemia increases if you also have diabetes and use insulin or sulfonylureas. Antidepressants themselves are not typically a significant cause of hypoglycaemia in people without diabetes.
Key points:
- There is no known direct drug–drug interaction between Wegovy and most antidepressants.
- The risk of low blood sugar is mainly relevant if you have diabetes and use other glucose-lowering medicines.
- Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea may overlap, particularly when starting or increasing doses.
- Always inform your prescriber about all medicines you take so your treatment can be reviewed safely.
