Description
What is the Wegovy Pill?
The Wegovy pill is an oral version of Wegovy weight-loss injections. Both contain semaglutide, which is designed to support weight loss alongside a balanced diet and increased physical activity. Semaglutide mimics a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which helps to slow the rate at which food leaves the stomach, increase feelings of fullness, and reduce calorie intake.
In the OASIS 4 clinical trial, adults taking oral semaglutide experienced an average weight reduction of 14% over 64 weeks, with approximately one in four losing 20% or more of their starting body weight.¹
UK Availability
The Wegovy pill has been approved in the United States and launched in early 2026. Before it can become available in the UK, it must be approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). A UK approval decision is expected around mid-2026, although timelines may change.
Eligibility (subject to clinical assessment)
If approved in the UK, the Wegovy tablet is expected to be prescribed to adults who:
- have a BMI of 30 or above, or
- have a BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition.
You should not use Wegovy if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Usage and Instructions
- Take your Wegovy tablet first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medicines.
- Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
Wegovy tablets are always started at a low dose and increased gradually by your clinical team. This allows your body to adjust and keeps side effects to a minimum.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose, simply skip that day and take the next day's dose as usual. Do not take a double dose.
Use with alcohol: Caution is recommended when drinking alcohol whilst taking this medication.
