Description
The A&D Medical Fingertip Pulse Oximeter (UP-200) is a clip-on device that measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate through the finger. It is designed for adults to use at home, and a single button starts a reading.
Key Features
- SpO2 and pulse rate in one reading: Measures oxygen saturation from 0 to 100% and pulse rate from 30 to 250 bpm.
- Stated accuracy: SpO2 accuracy is ±2% between 70% and 100%, and pulse rate accuracy is ±2 bpm.
- One-button operation: Press the button once to start. The device returns to standby on its own if it is not used for 5 seconds.
- Adjustable display: The display mode and screen brightness can be changed, and the screen orientation adjusts automatically.
- Battery powered: Runs on 2 AAA batteries and shows a low-battery indication when they need replacing.
- Small and light: Measures 5.9 x 3.3 x 3.2 cm and weighs 52 g including batteries.
Who is the A&D Medical Fingertip Pulse Oximeter suitable for?
It is suitable for adults. It is intended for use at home, and also in hospitals, community healthcare and for checks before or after sport. It is not recommended during exercise.
Can a pulse oximeter be used to diagnose a condition?
No. The reading should not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis. It is an auxiliary aid and should be considered together with a doctor's advice, symptoms and clinical signs.
What can affect the accuracy of the reading?
Nail polish and other colouring on the finger, very cold or thin fingers, long fingernails, bright ambient light and movement can all affect the result. Using a quiet, comfortable setting and placing a thumb or middle finger fully into the probe gives a more reliable reading.
Usage and Instructions
- Insert 2 AAA batteries the correct way round and replace the cover.
- Open the clip and place a finger into the rubber cushions, with the fingernail on the same side as the light emitter. A thumb or middle finger, inserted deeply enough, is recommended.
- Press the button once on the front panel.
- Keep the finger and body still and stay relaxed while the device measures.
- Read the SpO2 and pulse rate values from the screen.
If the screen shows an abnormal result, remove the finger and reinsert it to measure again. Press the button briefly to exit standby. Press and hold it during a reading to change the screen brightness.
Do not use nail polish or colouring on the test finger. Do not use the sensor on the same finger for more than 2 hours.
To clean, switch the device off, remove the batteries and wipe the casing with 75% alcohol, then let it dry or wipe with a soft clean cloth. Do not immerse it in liquid or spray liquid directly onto it.
Warnings
Read the instruction manual before use. The following warnings apply:
- Do not use this device as the only basis for diagnosis. Use it together with medical advice and your symptoms.
- Suitable for adults only.
- Do not use if you are allergic to silicone, PVC, TPU, TPE or ABS.
- Do not use on damaged skin, on swollen or tender tissue, or on a limb with a blood pressure cuff.
- Readings may look normal despite low oxygen delivery in people with anaemia or abnormal haemoglobin, and carbon monoxide poisoning can cause the reading to be overestimated. Speak to a doctor if you have symptoms.
- Results may be less reliable with poor circulation, weak pulse, cold hands, skin pigmentation or movement.
- Do not stare at the red and infrared light emitter, as it may be harmful to the eyes.
- Do not use during MRI or CT scans, or in the presence of flammable gases.
- Do not wear the lanyard around the neck.
- Do not repair or modify the device yourself.
- Stop using the device if it is visibly damaged, or if you cannot get a satisfactory result.
Side Effects
Using the device continuously on the same finger may cause an uncomfortable or painful feeling, particularly in people with poor microcirculation. Moving the sensor to another finger at least every 2 hours is advised.
