What sets Buttercup apart from other cough syrups?
Buttercup stands out due to its unique blend of squill and capsicum, working synergistically to ease symptoms. Squill aids in mucus loosening, while capsicum provides soothing warmth for the throat. In contrast, Bronchostop opts for marshmallow and thyme. The proven effectiveness of Buttercup over many decades has made it a consistent choice for families.
Is Buttercup safe for all individuals?
Most adults and teenagers find Buttercup effective, with children aged twelve and above suitable for its use. However, it's not recommended for younger children. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should seek medical advice before using it. Those sensitive to alcohol should steer clear, as should individuals allergic to any ingredients. Always check the full ingredient list before use.
What are the ingredients in Buttercup?
Buttercup contains active ingredients like squill and capsicum extracts, alongside ginger tincture and peppermint oil. Aniseed flavour and clove oil enhance taste, while acacia powder and caramel colour provide texture. The syrup also includes ethanol, sucrose, and glucose, along with preservatives to maintain freshness. Each ingredient plays a specific therapeutic role.
How long can Buttercup be used safely?
It's advisable not to use Buttercup for more than a week. If symptoms persist beyond seven days, consult a healthcare professional. Seek medical advice if breathing difficulties arise or if persistent headaches occur. Sustained fever over several days also requires attention. Always follow recommended usage guidelines and seek professional advice if needed.
Are there any allergens in Buttercup?
Individuals sensitive to ethanol should be cautious, as it's present in Buttercup. Diabetics should be wary of the presence of sucrose. Various food colourings, including Sunset Yellow and Carmoisine (E122), are part of the formula. Some may react to peppermint or clove oils, while aniseed flavour might trigger responses in sensitive individuals. Carefully review the complete ingredient list for any potential allergens.
Can Buttercup be used with other medications?
Given its ethanol content, Buttercup may interact with alcohol and certain medications. Consult a pharmacist if you're taking other drugs to ensure compatibility. Never combine it with other cough remedies without professional advice. Inform your healthcare provider about all products you're using to avoid any adverse interactions.
