Contrelle Activgard Size 1 30 Pack contains 30 single-use, small-sized bladder supports for women aged 18 and over with stress urinary incontinence (SUI), the bladder leaks that happen when you cough, sneeze, laugh, lift or exercise. Each soft foam device is inserted into the vagina with the reusable applicator supplied, where it supports the bladder neck and urethra (the tube that empties the bladder) to help stop leaks. Rather than absorbing leaks like a pad, Contrelle Activgard is designed to help stop them from happening.

How do I know if Size 1 is the right size for me?

The right size depends on the size and shape of your vagina and how much support your bladder needs. It is not related to your weight, height, how much you leak or how strong your pelvic floor is. New users should start with the Contrelle Activgard Sizing Kit, which contains all three sizes, and begin with Size 1. To check the fit, walk for at least 30 minutes, cough, jump or run. Size 1 is right for you if it feels comfortable, you have little or no leakage and the device does not move. If you still leak, first try gently pulling both strings to lower the device slightly, as the problem may be its position rather than its size. A larger size than you need will not stop leaks better and will make insertion and removal harder.

Can I go to the toilet while wearing Contrelle Activgard?

Yes. You can empty your bladder as normal without removing the device.

Can I use Contrelle Activgard during my period?

Yes, but change the device every 4 to 6 hours while you are menstruating. It cannot be used at the same time as a tampon or instead of one.

Is Contrelle Activgard available on prescription?

According to the manufacturer, Contrelle Activgard 30-packs have been approved for NHS prescription in a growing number of areas since March 2023. You do not need a prescription to buy it.

Materials: Soft, body-compatible foam device with a removal string. The manufacturer states that Contrelle Activgard is latex free and silicone free.

Read the instructions for use before first use. If you are a new user, find your size with the Contrelle Activgard Sizing Kit first, starting with Size 1.

1. Wash your hands. Tear the pouch open at either end, without scissors, as these could cut the string. Check the foam for damage and do not use a damaged device.
2. Hold the device under cold running water and slowly squeeze it 10 times or more, for at least 30 seconds, until it is fully soaked, smooth and about a third larger. Squeeze out any excess water.
3. Loop the string around the bottom of the applicator, near the grooves, first. Then gently slide the foam device onto the top of the applicator without forcing it.
4. Apply a little water-based lubricant at the entrance of the vagina if needed. Relax, as sitting on the toilet can help, and insert the device with the foam wings front to back, not side to side. New users should start by inserting it to the first groove of the applicator. It should not be pushed up as far as a tampon, and should never be forced.
5. Ease the string off the applicator and withdraw the applicator, leaving the string outside your body. Wash the applicator with soap and water, dry it, store it in its protective sleeve and wash your hands.
6. To remove, relax, hold both strings together close to your body and gently, slowly ease the device out. A little water-based lubricant inside the vagina can make removal easier.
7. Wrap the used device in tissue and put it in household waste. Do not flush it down the toilet.

Always remove the device after 16 hours, when you have finished your activity, and before going to bed. During your period, change it every 4 to 6 hours. After swimming, change it when convenient.

Do not use Contrelle Activgard if you:

• are under 18 years of age
• are pregnant, or have given birth in the last 3 months
• have any infection or irritation in the vagina, or a current urinary or vaginal infection
• have ever had toxic shock syndrome (TSS)
• have had pelvic surgery in the last 6 months
• are having treatment for pelvic cancer
• have a moderate to severe vaginal prolapse
• have untreated vaginal dryness that causes irritation, unless you have spoken to a healthcare professional
• have problems using your hands that could make insertion or removal difficult
• were born with male anatomy

Other precautions:

• Each device is single use only. Reusing a device risks infection or irritation.
• Do not wear one device for more than 16 hours in any 24-hour period, or for more than 6 hours during your period.
• Insert only one device at a time, and do not use it with any other vaginal device, including tampons, menstrual cups or vaginal pessaries for prolapse.
• Remove the device before sex.
• Use the device straight away once the pouch is opened, and do not use it if the packaging is open or damaged.
• Insert the device into the vagina only, never into the anus or urethra.
• If you have a coil (intrauterine device) fitted, speak to your doctor or healthcare professional to confirm Contrelle Activgard is suitable.
• Contact your doctor or healthcare professional if you have difficulty inserting or removing the device, or if it does not reduce your leaks, as you may have a different type of incontinence.

• bleeding that is not related to your period
• pain or burning when you pass urine

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a very rare but serious condition. No cases have been reported with Contrelle Activgard, but remove the device and contact your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms such as a high temperature (usually above 39°C), a sunburn-like rash, diarrhoea, vomiting, or a sore throat and dizziness. Tell your doctor you have been using Contrelle Activgard.
