Cow & Gate Instant Carobel is a carob bean gum thickener that is added to a baby's feed to help manage frequent regurgitation and reflux. It is a food for special medical purposes and is only to be used under medical supervision. It can be mixed into infant milk, or made into a gel and spoon-fed to breastfed babies, so breastfeeding can continue.

Who should use Cow & Gate Instant Carobel?

It is for full-term infants, children and adults, and should be used under medical supervision. It is not recommended for preterm or low birthweight babies, because there is no clinical data to support its use in them.

Can I use Instant Carobel with breast milk?

Yes. For breastfed babies, mix it with cooled, freshly boiled water to make a gel, then spoon-feed small amounts before and during the milk feed. See Usage and Instructions for the method.

Why does the feed keep getting thicker?

Instant Carobel continues to thicken between 4 and 15 minutes after mixing. Add one scoop at a time, stir well, let it thicken, and add more only if you need a thicker consistency.

Can Instant Carobel be a baby's only source of nutrition?

No. It is not suitable as a sole source of nutrition.

Ingredients: Maltodextrin, carob bean gum, calcium carbonate, ferrous sulphate and zinc sulphate.

Additional information: Milk free, gluten free and sucrose free.

Only use under medical supervision, and follow the preparation instructions carefully. Always use the scoop provided.

Bottle-fed babies:

1. Prepare the infant milk as directed on its pack.
2. Add Instant Carobel as shown in the feeding guide on the pack.
3. Shake well for 30-60 seconds.
4. Leave for 3-4 minutes to thicken, then shake again.
5. Feed immediately.

It keeps thickening for 4-15 minutes after mixing, so add one scoop at a time, stir well and allow it to thicken before adding more. Do not heat in a microwave, as hot spots can scald. The teat usually needs a larger hole than for normal milk. A variable-flow or split teat may be used.

Breastfed babies:

1. Add 3 level scoops to 60ml (2 fl oz) of cooled, freshly boiled water to make a gel.
2. Stir well and leave to thicken for 3-4 minutes.
3. Stir again and feed immediately in small quantities by spoon, before and during the milk feed.

Throw away any unused made-up gel immediately. Supervise infants at all times when feeding.

Instant Carobel is a food for special medical purposes. The following precautions apply:

A small percentage of infants may pass frequent loose stools. If this happens, stop using Instant Carobel until stools are back to normal, then reintroduce it gradually, increasing the quantity according to the baby's tolerance.
