Warnings
The recommended dose should not be exceeded.
Should not be used in children under the age of 12 years.
If laxatives are needed for more than five days in a row, or if symptoms don't improve.
If you have persistent abdominal pain or are passing blood, consult your doctor immediately.
As with all laxatives, bisacodyl should be taken only for occasional constipation, and not for more than five days without investigating the cause of constipation.
Using laxatives on a regular basis can cause:
• Electrolyte and mineral imbalances. Sodium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus are electrolytes and minerals that are present in very specific amounts necessary for proper functioning of the nerves and muscles, including those of the colon and heart. Upsetting this delicate balance can cause incorrect functioning of these vital organs.
• Severe dehydration. Signs of dehydration are tremors, weakness, blurry vision, or feeling faint. Dehydration should be taken seriously as it can cause kidney damage, and, in extreme cases, death. Dehydration often requires medical treatment.
• Impaired gut function
Also, be aware that stimulant laxatives (including bisacodyl) do not make you loose weight. They do not reduce how many calories you absorb. They can cause diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and dehydration. Dehydration can seem like weight loss, but it’s not, and can be life threatening.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding please speak to your doctor before buying Dulcolax.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
