Galfer Capsules contains contain 305mg of Ferrous Fumarate and are used for the treatment and prevention of iron-deficiency anaemia.
A lack of iron affects the development of the red blood cells and causes a reduction in the number of red blood cells found in the body (iron deficiency anaemia). Therefore, ferrous fumarate iron tablets are used to prevent or as a iron deficiency anaemia treatment.
Anaemia is a condition which occurs when you have an abnormally low amount of red blood cells. Red blood cells contain haemoglobin, a red pigment which gives blood its colour. Haemoglobin’s job is to carry oxygen around the body. When red blood cells and therefore haemoglobin are low the blood fails to supply the body’s tissues with sufficient amounts of oxygen. As your lungs and heart will then have to work harder to get oxygen into the blood, symptoms of anaemia, such as difficulty in breathing will begin to develop.
Women are mainly affected by anaemia during pregnancy or those who suffer with heavy periods. In addition, the prevention of anaemia during pregnancy usually requires a combination of iron and folic acid.
