Description
Nurofen for Children Cold, Pain and Fever is an oral ibuprofen suspension for babies and children aged from 3 months to 9 years.
For the relief of mild to moderate pain such as: Sore throats, minor aches, teething, headache, sprains, toothach.
Ingredients
Active ingredient:
Ibuprofen 100mg/5ml Oral Suspension
Other Ingredients:
Citric acid
Sodium citrate
Sodium chloride
Sodium saccharin
Domiphen bromide
Purified water
Polysorbate 80
Maltitol liquid
Xanthan gum
Orange flavour
Glycerol
Usage and Instructions
Fever, pain and symptoms of cold and flu:
3 - 6 months Weighing over 5kg: One 2.5ml dose 3 times a day.
6 - 12 months: One 2.5ml dose 3 or 4 times in 24 hrs
1 - 3 years: One 5ml dose 3 times in 24 hrs
4 - 6 years: One 7.5ml (5ml + 2.5ml) dose 3 times in 24 hrs
7 - 9 years: One 10ml (5ml + 5ml) dose 3 times in 24 hrs
Doses should be given every 6 - 8 hours.
Leave at least 4 hours between doses.
For short term use only. Do not give to babies aged 3 to 6 months for longer than 24 hours or children aged 6 months and over for longer than 3 days.
Warnings
Who should not take Ibuprofen:
Babies under three months of age or weighing less than five kilograms.
Children who have had an allergic reaction such as an asthma attack, itchy rash (urticaria), nasal inflammation (rhinitis) or swelling of the lips, tongue and throat (angioedema) after previously taking ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs, eg diclofenac.
Children with an active peptic ulcer or bleeding in the gut.
Children who have had recurrent peptic ulcers or bleeding from the gut (two or more episodes).
Children who have ever experienced bleeding or perforation of the gut as a result of previous treatment with an NSAID.
Children with severe heart failure, kidney failure or liver failure.
Children taking other NSAIDs, including COX-2 inhibitors (see end of factsheet for more details).
Ibuprofen is not recommended for children with chickenpox.
Side Effects
The most common side effects are related to stomach irritation and include abdominal pain, indigestion and nausea. These can mainly be avoided by taking the ibuprofen with food.
Rarely, serious side effects such as ulceration or bleeding of the stomach or intestines may occur. These are more likely with high doses and in elderly people.
If your child experiences any sign of bleeding from the stomach or bowels after taking this medicine, such as vomiting blood and/or passing black/tarry/bloodstained stools, you should consult your doctor straight away.
