Who can use Viagra Connect Melts?

Viagra Connect Melts are for adult men aged 18 years and over with erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence. Erectile dysfunction means being unable to get or maintain an erection firm enough for satisfactory sexual activity.

Viagra Connect Melts only work when you are sexually stimulated. Do not take them if you do not have an erection problem or if your doctor has advised you to avoid sexual activity because of a heart or blood-vessel problem.

Viagra Connect Melts are a pharmacy medicine. A pharmacist can provide advice about using this medicine where appropriate.

Main ingredients: Sildenafil 50 mg per orodispersible film (as sildenafil citrate).

Excipients: hydroxypropylcellulose (E463), macrogol, crospovidone (E1202), povidone (E1201), sucralose (E955), macrogol poly(vinyl alcohol) grafted copolymer, levomenthol, hypromellose (E464), titanium dioxide (E171), ferric oxide red (E172).

• Take 1 orodispersible film as needed, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity.
• Carefully peel open the aluminium pouch with dry hands. Do not cut it open.
• Remove the film with a dry finger and immediately place it on the tongue.
• Allow the film to disintegrate on the tongue. It will disintegrate within seconds, with or without water.
• During disintegration, saliva may be swallowed, but do not swallow the film itself.
• Do not take more than 1 film per day.
• Sexual arousal is required for the medicine to help produce an erection.
• Preferably take the film on an empty stomach. A heavy or high-fat meal may delay how quickly it starts working.
• Do not take with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
• Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol before sexual activity, as this can temporarily reduce your ability to achieve an erection.
• If the medicine does not work the first time, it can be tried again later, but never take more than one film in a day.
• If you continue to be unable to get or maintain an erection after trying the medicine as directed, speak to your doctor.

Do Not Take Viagra Connect Melts If You:

• Do not have an erection problem.
• Take nitrate medicines for chest pain or heart failure, or nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite ("poppers"), nicorandil or sodium nitroprusside.
• Take riociguat or other guanylate cyclase stimulators.
• Take ritonavir for HIV.
• Have been advised by your doctor to avoid sexual activity because of heart or blood-vessel problems.
• Have a severe heart problem, including a heart attack or stroke within the last 6 months, unstable angina, or severe heart failure.
• Have a severe liver problem.
• Have low blood pressure below 90/50 mmHg.
• Have previously experienced severe vision loss caused by nerve damage in the eye, such as non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
• Have a rare inherited eye disease such as retinitis pigmentosa.
• Have a deformed penis.
• Are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients.
• Are a woman.
• Are under 18 years old.

Talk to a Doctor Before Taking Viagra Connect Melts If You:

• Become very breathless or experience chest pain during light or moderate physical activity.
• Have heart valve disease.
• Have cardiomyopathy.
• Have an irregular heartbeat.
• Have had surgery to improve blood flow to your heart.
• Have high blood pressure that is now adequately treated.
• Have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
• Have previously had an erection lasting more than 4 hours.
• Have a condition that increases the risk of a prolonged erection, such as sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or multiple myeloma.
• Have a stomach ulcer or bleeding disorder such as haemophilia.
• Have mild to moderate liver disease.
• Have severe kidney problems.

Medicine Interactions

Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Do not use Viagra Connect Melts if you take:

• Nitrate medicines such as glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate or isosorbide dinitrate, or nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite ("poppers"), nicorandil or sodium nitroprusside.
• Riociguat or other guanylate cyclase stimulators.
• Ritonavir.
• Treatments for pulmonary arterial hypertension containing sildenafil or other PDE5 inhibitors.

Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before use if you take:

• Itraconazole or ketoconazole.
• Erythromycin.
• Cimetidine.
• Alpha-blockers such as alfuzosin, doxazosin or tamsulosin.
• Sacubitril/valsartan.

The safety and effectiveness of using Viagra Connect Melts with other treatments for erectile dysfunction have not been studied, so this combination is not recommended.

Important Safety Warnings

• Sexual activity can put additional strain on your heart.
• If you experience chest pain before, during or after sexual activity, get into a semi-sitting position and try to relax. Do not use nitrates to treat the chest pain. Seek medical attention immediately.

• Seek medical attention immediately if you experience seizures or fits.
• Viagra Connect Melts can cause dizziness and affect your vision. Do not drive or use machines if affected.
• Drinking excessive alcohol can temporarily reduce your ability to achieve an erection. Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol before sexual activity.
• Schedule a health check-up with your doctor as soon as possible within the first 6 months of starting Viagra Connect Melts. Erectile dysfunction can be an early sign of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
