What is Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops used for?
Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops are used to treat symptoms and signs of dry eye and/or ocular surface damage, such as burning, dryness, and ocular fatigue caused by diseases such as superficial keratitis, Sjögren syndrome or primary dry eye syndrome, as well as minor complaints induced by environmental factors like dust, smoke, air conditioning, wind, cold, and extended computer screen use or contact lens wear.
What is the active ingredient in Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops?
The active ingredient in Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops is sodium hyaluronate from fermentation at a concentration of 0.18%.
What are the other ingredients in Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops?
The excipients in Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops are sodium chloride, potassium chloride, disodium phosphate, sodium citrate, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, and water for injections. The solution is hypotonic (150 mOsm/l) and adjusted to pH 7.3.
How should Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops be administered?
Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops should be administered by twisting off the tab and placing one or two drops into the conjunctival sac of the eye as often as needed. After blinking, the solution will disperse and form a transparent and long-lasting coating on the surface of the eye. The drops can also be used while wearing contact lenses (rigid or soft). Any solution not used immediately after opening should be discarded as the drops do not contain preservatives.
How does Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops work?
Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops contain a highly purified specific fraction of sodium salt of hyaluronic acid produced by bacterial fermentation and are free from animal proteins. Hyaluronic acid has high viscosity between blinks and low viscosity during blinking, ensuring efficient coating of the eye surface. It also has mucoadhesive properties and the ability to entrap water, resembling tear mucus glycoprotein, which results in a longer lubrication of the corneal surface. The hypotonic solution of VISMED® (150 mOsm/l) counteracts the hyperosmolarity of altered tear fluid and contains essential ions like calcium, magnesium, and potassium found in natural tears and important to maintain corneal health.
Can I combine Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops woth other medicines?
Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops should not be used at the same time as any other drug or product applied to the eye as it may modify their effects.
How should Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops be stored?
Vismed Lubricant Eye Drops should be stored between 2°C and 25°C.
