Description
Voltarol Joint & Back Pain Relief 30g is a targeted topical gel for joint, back, and muscular pain. It contains diclofenac diethylammonium, helping relieve pain and inflammation locally. The compact 30g tube suits travel, handbags, and home use.
Key Features
- Targeted relief: Delivers local pain relief where discomfort is felt most.
- Anti-inflammatory action: Helps reduce swelling alongside joint and back pain.
- Compact format: 30g tube is convenient for on-the-go use and storage.
What type of pain is this gel designed for?
Voltarol Joint & Back Pain Relief is designed for localised joint, back, muscle, and soft-tissue pain. It is commonly chosen for sprains, strains, bruises, and similar everyday aches. The formula focuses on the affected area rather than providing whole-body pain relief.
What makes Voltarol Joint & Back Pain Relief 30g different from standard painkillers?
This is a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory gel, so it works directly at the site of discomfort. That makes it a practical option for people seeking a more focused approach to pain and inflammation. It is often preferred when a gel format feels more convenient than tablets.
Is the 30g size suitable for regular use?
The 30g tube is ideal if you want a smaller pack for occasional or portable use. It is also useful for keeping in a drawer, bag, or travel kit without taking up much space. For frequent use, many shoppers compare larger pack sizes before deciding.
Ingredients
Main ingredients: Diclofenac diethylammonium 23.2 mg per gram of gel, equivalent to diclofenac sodium 20 mg per gram.
Excipients: butylhydroxytoluene, carbomers, cocoyl caprylocaprate, diethylamine, isopropyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, macrogol cetostearyl ether, oleyl alcohol, propylene glycol, perfume eucalyptus sting, purified water.
Usage and Instructions
Voltarol Joint & Back Pain Relief 2.32% Gel is used for the local relief of pain, inflammation and swelling associated with muscle and joint injuries, including sprains, strains, bruises, backache and sports injuries. It may also be used for tendonitis, such as tennis elbow, and swelling around the elbow or knee.
Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over should apply the gel to the painful or swollen area twice daily, preferably once in the morning and once in the evening.
Gently squeeze out 2 g to 4 g of gel, approximately an amount ranging in size from a 1 penny to a 2 pence piece, depending on the size of the affected area. Rub the gel gently into the skin. Use the smallest amount needed. Do not use more than 8 g in 24 hours or 56 g in one week.
This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not apply it to cuts, open wounds, rashes, eczema or damaged skin. Allow the gel to dry for a few minutes before dressing the area or applying a non-airtight bandage. Do not use it beneath an airtight plastic bandage. Apply the gel after showering or bathing rather than immediately before.
After applying the gel, wipe your hands with a tissue and then wash them, unless your hands are the area being treated. Dispose of the tissue in household waste and not in the toilet. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes.
Do not use the gel for longer than 14 days unless advised by a doctor. Speak to a doctor if pain or swelling has not improved within 7 days or becomes worse at any time. For adolescents aged 14 years and over, consult a doctor if the gel is needed for longer than 7 days or symptoms worsen.
If an application is missed, apply the gel when remembered and then continue as usual. Do not apply twice as much to make up for a missed application.
If too much gel is applied, wipe away the excess with a tissue. If the gel is swallowed, contact a doctor immediately. Read the Patient Information Leaflet before use and ask a doctor or pharmacist if anything is unclear.
Warnings
Do not use Voltarol Joint & Back Pain Relief 2.32% Gel if you are allergic to diclofenac, aspirin, ibuprofen, another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or any of the other ingredients. Do not use it if aspirin or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug has previously caused asthma, wheezing, shortness of breath, hives, swelling of the face or throat, or a runny nose.
Do not use this medicine for severe joint pain of recent onset that is unrelated to an injury or overuse. Do not use it if you feel unwell, have a temperature or have other symptoms accompanying the pain.
This medicine is not recommended for children under 14 years of age.
Apply only to intact, healthy skin. Do not use on cuts, open wounds, rashes or eczema. Stop using the gel if a skin rash develops. Do not use it over large areas of skin or for prolonged periods unless advised by a doctor. Avoid excessive sunlight and sun lamps because treated skin may become more sensitive to sunlight.
Do not swallow the gel or put it in the mouth. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. If the gel enters the eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water and speak to a doctor or pharmacist if discomfort continues.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have or have previously had a stomach or duodenal ulcer, asthma or an allergic condition.
Tell a doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines you are using, have recently used or intend to use, including medicines obtained without medical advice. Take particular care when using other medicines containing diclofenac or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, because the risk of side effects may be increased.
Do not use this medicine during the last 3 months of pregnancy. During the first 6 months of pregnancy, it should only be used under medical advice, at the lowest dose and for the shortest possible time. Oral diclofenac can harm an unborn baby, and it is not known whether the same risk applies when diclofenac is applied to the skin.
During breastfeeding, use this medicine only under medical advice. Diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts. Do not apply the gel to the breasts, large areas of skin or use it for a prolonged period while breastfeeding.
This medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive or operate machinery. Drowsiness is not listed as an expected effect. The leaflet provides no specific restriction concerning alcohol.
Propylene glycol may cause mild local skin irritation. Butylhydroxytoluene may cause local skin reactions or irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes.
Do not smoke or go near naked flames after using this product. Clothing, bedding, dressings and other fabrics that have been in contact with the gel can burn more easily and are a serious fire hazard. Washing fabrics may reduce product build-up but may not remove it completely.
Stop using the gel and seek immediate medical advice if you develop wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, hives, a blistering rash, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
If more gel than recommended is applied, wipe away the excess. If an adult or child swallows the gel, contact a doctor immediately.
