Trying to decide if Gina could be the right medicine for you? We will help you in your decision process and have asked the internet what real customers who have taken Gina think about it. But let’s start with the basic stuff: What is Gina?

Gina vaginal tablets is a local vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) designed to alleviate menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, irritation, and discomfort. They contain estradiol which is a type of estrogen that helps to treat the underlying cause of these symptoms by delivering a low dose of oestrogen directly to the vaginal wall. Now that that is out of the way, why look at reviews as opposed to the science behind the medication? Well, we think both of these methods can be a good way to determine if the medication is suitable for you, however, everyone is different and have their own experience and opinions about the medicine. By understanding how the medicines affect individuals we think this could make the decision easier for you. But as always our pharmacists are on standby to help you in your decision of how to help improve your health!

Collecting reviews

Gina is a fairly new product on the market. As a treatment method, it has been around for quite some time but then only available with a prescription. This is where Gina is different because it is available over-the-counter and all that is required to purchase it is to consult with a pharmacist. As such the amount of customer reviews available is limited. For this reason, we went to some of the largest online pharmacies to gather reviews from multiple sources and in this text we are analysing 48 customer reviews from 5 online pharmacies: ChemistDirect, Chemist4u, Boots, Superdrug and Medino. Let's start with the average score on a scale of 1-5:

As you can see Gina scores high across the board among all retailers. A caveat to add here is since it has only been offered a short time at medino the sample size is really small and we will update the average as more reviews come in.

Review Key Findings

So after going through the reviews here are our key findings:

  • Positive Feedback Predominates: The majority of users reported feeling more energized and positive after using Gina, with many noting improvements in as early as a week.
  • Comparative Effectiveness: Gina was frequently described as superior to other brands or alternatives the users had tried in the past. This included prescription medications
  • Duration and Consistency: While many users noticed quick results, a few pointed out the importance of consistent use for optimal outcomes.
  • Value for Money: Several reviewers highlighted that Gina offers good value for its price, considering its effectiveness.
  • Recommendations Abound: A significant number of users would not only repurchase Gina if needed but also actively recommend it based on their positive experiences.
  • Fresh Starters: Some users have just begun their journey with Gina and thus refrained from giving a comprehensive review. This is very common for medications that usually require consistency for good results.
  • Minimal Dissatisfaction: A minority expressed dissatisfaction, either due to unmet expectations or because they didn't notice any significant changes
  • Professional Endorsement: A few reviews hinted at the product being found or recommended through professional channels, reinforcing its credibility.

Pusscat: "So have been using Gina for 3 weeks so I can’t say conclusively that it’s working but I’m cautiously optimistic. I find it very easy to use and the packaging is easy to open. The length of time I've been using it is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. " — ★★★★☆

Ms S S: "Does what it says: I am 67 years old, and I was a bit sceptical about how effective this would be after so long finishing the menopause. Given me more confidence to restart a relationship again." — ★★★★★

D Ml: "Within 2 days of using Gina I felt energised, as though a black cloud had been lifted. I felt I found ME again. Great product after years of asking GP for help through menopause and not getting any apart from being told to read up on the internet about it. I can’t thank whoever made Gina enough; you really have given me my life back!" — ★★★★★

Doecops: "Gina works. Easy to use. Excellent results. So glad I found them." — ★★★★★

RosMary: "Easy to use but a bit difficult to see if the tablet has gone in. But I feel much more comfortable." — ★★★★☆

What does the pharmacist say?

As always we also sat down with our superintendent pharmacist, Alessandro Grenci, to hear his thoughts on the findings and the product in general. Are you surprised with the score?

It is amazing that a product like Gina is now available Over-The-Counter as opposed to prescription only. Many women encounter the discomfort associated with menopause and Gina is a great solution to help them. I think the availability, together with the product’s effectiveness, is why the score is so high and so many patients are happy with the results. Because the medication has been scientifically proven to work, I am not surprised about its efficacy, and I have also seen this firsthand when consulting patients in the pharmacy. So, I am not really surprised; rather, I am pleased to hear that these reviews echo what I have also seen in my day-to-day communication with patients.

Gina precautions and usage

So what should you be aware of when considering to start taking Gina?

Medical history: When considering Gina, the pharmacist will inquire about an individual's personal and family medical records to determine if Gina is a suitable choice.

Vaginal infections: Should an individual have an active vaginal infection, it's crucial to address it before initiating Gina. If an infection arises while on Gina, they should contact a medical professional immediately.

Contraindications: Individuals with conditions like vulval dermatoses, vulval rash, intense vaginal itching shouldn't use Gina. Moreover, Gina isn't recommended for women with a history of certain health issues such as breast, endometrial or ovarian cancer, blood clots, heart ailments, liver complications, or stroke.

Vaginal applicator use: The use of intravaginal applicators might occasionally lead to minor vaginal injuries, particularly if handled roughly or in cases of significant vaginal atrophy. Individuals feeling discomfort or facing challenges with the applicator should reach out to their healthcare provider.

Latex contraceptives: It's advisable to refrain from using latex-based products like condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps for about 72 hours post-application of estrogen vaginal creams. This is because some estrogen formulations might have oils that compromise the integrity of latex items.

Usage:

So you decided to give it a go, here are the main points to follow, but as always we recommend reading the full Gina patient leaflet as well before starting the treatment.

Initial dose: For the first two weeks, place one vaginal tablet daily using the provided applicator.

Maintenance dose: Post the initial fortnight, place a vaginal tablet every 3 or 4 days. Each Gina package comes with 24 ready-to-use applicators. The treatment can commence on any day that works best for the user. It's crucial to adopt the minimally effective dose for the briefest span of time. Nevertheless, given the chronic nature of vaginal atrophy, the symptoms might resurface upon halting the treatment. Women may use Gina for prolonged durations, even years, if deemed appropriate.
