Will the price of weightloss medication continue to increase?

Will Wegovy's price increase?

While we cannot say with 100% certainty what the future holds or whether other companies may change course, we have spoken with Novo Nordisk representatives who told us there are no planned price increases for Wegovy following the recent Mounjaro price increases.

Despite the company’s current stance on price stability, Novo Nordisk is operating in a highly competitive environment. Rivals like Eli Lilly have aggressively priced their therapies, and issues such as compounded versions of GLP-1 drugs (often cheaper but unapproved) have influenced access and pricing dynamics. Novo’s leadership has responded by both lowering list prices and accelerating access initiatives, partly to counter competitive threats and partly to align with broader healthcare affordability trends.

Will Mounjaro have further increases?

Although we have been re-assured by Eli-lily that there are no plans in 2026 to increases the prices again and the higher doses (7.5mg - 15mg) are likely to have their prices unchanged for the foreseeable future. However, there are whispers and rumours coming from credible sources that discussions are taking place within Eli-lily surrounding price increases for the 2.5mg and 5mg next year or worst case scenario later this year but this is not confirmed.

Why Pricing Matters Now

Recent estimates suggest that around 1.5 to 1.6 million adults in the UK are currently using weight-loss injections such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, with most access coming through private clinics rather than the NHS. A large survey published in early 2025 found that about 1.6 million people had used these medications in the past year, highlighting how quickly uptake has grown. The same research also showed much wider interest, with nearly one in ten UK adults either having used or seriously considered using weight-loss injections, underlining the scale of demand for these treatments.

With so many people considering to start weightloss treatments and the current price of Mounjaro, the cost of the medication will be a large factor, even more so when the average patient purchases 10 pens during their weightloss journey.
