Description
Aspirin 75mg Gastro-Resistant 28 Tablets is a low dose aspirin for long term heart health support, often used after a heart attack, stroke or heart surgery to help lower the risk of new clots. The gastro resistant coat helps the tablet pass through the stomach and break down in the gut, which can reduce stomach upset for many people. Adults who have had a heart attack, angina, stroke or certain heart procedures are often advised a daily low dose aspirin by their doctor.
Key Features
- Low dose heart care: Helps reduce the risk of further heart attack or stroke in suitable adults.
- Antiplatelet action: Thins the blood by reducing platelet stickiness to help prevent harmful clots.
- Gastro resistant coat: Special film coat helps protect the stomach by releasing aspirin in the intestine.
- Once daily use: Designed for simple daily use as advised by your doctor or nurse.
- Trusted evidence base: Backed by long standing clinical use in secondary heart and stroke care.
Is Aspirin 75mg Gastro-Resistant 28 Tablets right for me?
Aspirin 75mg Gastro-Resistant 28 Tablets is usually for adults who have had a heart attack, stroke, angina or certain heart procedures and have been advised to take low dose aspirin. It is not meant for general pain relief or for people who have not been told to take daily aspirin, so you should only use it if your doctor or specialist has said it is suitable.
How does low dose aspirin help my heart and circulation?
Low dose aspirin stops platelets in the blood from clumping so easily, which lowers the chance of clots that can block heart or brain arteries. By reducing clot risk, it helps protect people who already have heart or blood vessel disease from further heart attacks, strokes or mini strokes.
What does gastro-resistant mean for my stomach?
Gastro resistant tablets have a special coat that does not dissolve in the acid of the stomach, but breaks down later in the small intestine so the aspirin is released further along the gut. This design can help lessen irritation for some people who are prone to indigestion with plain aspirin, though it does not remove the risk of bleeding or other stomach side effects.

Side Effects
Aspirin is generally well-tolerated and most people don't experience side effects. The most common side effects are related to stomach irritation and include abdominal pain, indigestion and nausea. These can mainly be avoided by taking the aspirin with food.
Side effects like ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestine are more likely in elderly people and those who've had peptic ulcers in the past. The risk can also be increased by taking certain other medicines.
If your doctor thinks you are at high risk of side effects on the gut you will be prescribed an extra medicine to help protect your gut.
Other possible aspirin side effects include:
- Increased time taken to stop bleeding or other bleeding problems (see below).
- Sensation of ringing, or other noise in the ears (tinnitus).
- Confusion.
- Allergic reactions such as skin rash, swelling of the lips, tongue and throat (angioedema) or narrowing of the airways (bronchospasm or asthma attack - see below).
