Description
Dulcolax Tablets offer relief from constipation by gently stimulating the bowel and returning the body habit to its natural rhythm.
Within 6-12 hours of taking one dose, the colon is gently stimulated and constipation is soon relieved.
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Bisacodyl 5 mg
Usage and Instructions
Adults and children over 10 years:
Take 1 to 2 coated tablets (5 - 10 mg) daily before bedtime, or 1 suppository (10 mg) daily for immediate effect.
Children 4 – 10 years:
Take 1 coated tablet (5 mg) daily before bedtime, or 1 suppository (5 mg) daily for immediate effect.
It is recommended to start with the lowest dose. The dose may be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose to produce regular stools.
The maximum daily dose should not be exceeded.
In the management of constipation, once regularity has been restarted dosage should be reduced and can usually be stopped.
Children aged 10 years or younger with chronic or persistent constipation should only be treated under the guidance of a physician. Bisacodyl should not be used in children aged 4 years or younger.
Warnings
If laxatives are needed for more than 5 days in a row or if you persistent abdominal pain, consult your doctor.
Do not take milk or antacids within one hour of taking Dulcolax tablets.
Do not take if you have an intestinal obstruction, an inflammatory gastrointestinal disorder, or severe dehydration.
Do not take if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breast feeding.
Please note that it is very important to avoid drinking milk or an antacid product at the same time as taking Dulcolax. These liquids are alkaline, and can dissolve the comfort coating too early.
For the same reason, Dulcolax Tablets should never be crushed or chewed before swallowing, or the comfort coating will not be effective anymore.
Please always read the leaflet in the package carefully, and ask your health advisor if you have questions.
Side Effects
Can cause abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and nausea.
