What 500,000+ customers say about medino:
Description
Frontline Plus Spot On for Cats and Ferrets 3 Pack contains three 0.5 ml pipettes of a spot-on solution that treats flea and tick infestations on cats and ferrets, and biting lice on cats. It combines fipronil, which kills adult fleas, ticks and lice, with (S)-methoprene, which kills flea eggs and larvae, and it is applied to the skin at the base of the neck. This is a veterinary medicine that does not need a prescription, so you can treat your pet at home with a single pipette per application.
Key Features
- Two active ingredients: Each pipette contains 50 mg of fipronil and 60 mg of (S)-methoprene. Fipronil kills adult fleas within 24 hours, and ticks and lice within 48 hours of exposure.
- Targets flea eggs and larvae as well as adult fleas: (S)-methoprene kills flea eggs and larvae and prevents pupae from developing, which helps stop immature fleas building up in your home. Flea multiplication is prevented for 6 weeks on cats.
- Licensed for cats and ferrets: The same 0.5 ml pipette is used for either species, with no weight bands to work out.
- Persistent protection against new fleas and ticks: Efficacy against new adult flea infestations lasts 4 weeks. Tick protection lasts up to 2 weeks on cats and 4 weeks on ferrets.
- Simple spot-on application: One pipette is squeezed onto the skin in a single spot at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades.
- Pack of 3 pipettes: Each 0.5 ml pipette is a single treatment, and the minimum interval between treatments is 4 weeks.
Which pets can use Frontline Plus Spot On for Cats and Ferrets?
It is for cats and ferrets only. Do not use it on kittens under 8 weeks old or weighing less than 1 kg, or on ferrets under 6 months old. Never use it on rabbits, because adverse events and even death could occur.
How often can I treat my cat or ferret?
The minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks. The need for and frequency of re-treatment should be based on professional advice, taking into account your local situation and your pet's lifestyle.
Do I need to treat my home as well?
If your pet has an infestation, the datasheet advises treating carpets and non-washable furnishings with an appropriate insecticide household spray, washing pet bedding at 60°C and vacuuming the whole house, including under furniture. Other pets in the household should also be treated with a suitable veterinary medicine.
Can I bath my pet after applying it?
There is no data on the effect of bathing or shampooing on how well the product works in cats and ferrets. Based on information for dogs, it is not recommended to bath your pet within 2 days after application.

Usage and Instructions
For external use only. Weigh your pet accurately before treatment. Use one 0.5 ml pipette per cat or ferret, applied by spot-on application to the skin.
- Keep the pipette in its original packaging until ready to use.
- Hold the pipette upright and tap the narrow part so the contents stay in the main body.
- Snap back the tip.
- Part the coat on the back of the animal at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades, until the skin is visible.
- Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze it several times to empty the contents completely and directly onto the skin in one spot.
- Wash your hands after use.
The minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks. Treat in the early evening rather than during the day. The coat at the application site may look clumped or greasy for a while.
Warnings
Read the following before using this veterinary medicine:
- Do not use on kittens under 8 weeks old or weighing less than 1 kg, or on ferrets under 6 months old.
- Do not use on rabbits, as adverse events and even death could occur. It is not recommended for other non-target species.
- Do not use on sick (for example fever or systemic disease) or convalescent animals.
- Do not use if your pet is hypersensitive to fipronil, (S)-methoprene or any of the other ingredients.
- Do not use at the same time as other flea products applied directly to the animal.
- Apply only where your pet cannot lick it off, avoid contact with the eyes, and stop animals grooming each other until the application site is dry.
- Do not handle treated animals, and do not let children play with them, until the application site is dry. Do not let recently treated animals sleep with their owners, especially children.
- The product can irritate the mouth, skin and eyes. Avoid contact with your fingers; if this happens, wash with soap and water. Rinse the eye carefully with water after accidental eye exposure.
- People allergic to insecticides such as fipronil or (S)-methoprene, or to alcohol, should avoid contact with the product.
- Do not smoke, drink or eat while applying it.
- In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the doctor.
- Dispose of used pipettes immediately so children cannot get to them. Keep pipettes in their original packaging until use.
- Cats can be treated during pregnancy. In ferrets, safety in pregnancy and lactation has not been established, so use only on the advice of your vet. Take special care if kittens under 8 weeks are in contact with a treated queen, as the potential toxicity is not documented.
- A single tick may attach, so transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
- Do not bath your pet within 2 days after application (based on information for dogs).
- The alcohol in the product may damage painted, varnished or other household surfaces and furnishings.
- Flammable. Do not store above 25°C.
- Fipronil and (S)-methoprene may be dangerous for fish and other aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with the product or empty pipettes, and do not dispose of it via wastewater. Use take-back schemes for unused product.
Side Effects
Adverse events are very rare (fewer than 1 animal in 10,000 treated, including isolated reports) in cats and ferrets. They include:
- Application site reactions: skin scaling, localised hair loss, itching and reddening (all transient).
- Generalised itching or hair loss.
- Hypersalivation and vomiting. A brief period of hypersalivation may occur if your pet licks the product, mainly because of the carrier.
- Increased sensitivity to stimulation, depression and other nervous signs (reversible).
This list may not include every possible reaction. Report suspected adverse events, preferably via your vet, to the marketing authorisation holder or the Veterinary Medicines Directorate.
