What 500,000+ customers say about medino:
Description
Frontline Spot On for Small Dogs 2-10kg is a flea and tick treatment for dogs, supplied as a pack of 3 x 0.67ml pipettes that you apply to the skin. It contains fipronil and treats flea and tick infestations and biting lice. Each pipette is one dose for a dog weighing 2-10kg, so you do not need to measure anything out.
Key Features
- Fipronil only: Each 0.67ml pipette contains 67mg of fipronil as its single active substance.
- Fleas, ticks and biting lice: It is used for the treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations and for infestations with biting lice.
- Weight-based pipette: The 0.67ml pipette is the dose for dogs weighing 2-10kg, and the pack contains 3 pipettes.
- Spot-on application: The liquid is applied directly to the skin between the shoulder blades, not given by mouth.
- Safe in pregnancy and lactation: The product information states it can be used in pregnant and lactating dogs.
- Available without prescription: It is a veterinary medicine that is not subject to prescription.
How long does Frontline Spot On protect against fleas and ticks?
Against new infestations with adult fleas, protection lasts for 4 weeks. Against ticks, it keeps working for up to 2 weeks. Ticks are killed within 24 to 48 hours of attaching, so the product does not stop them attaching in the first place. You should leave at least 4 weeks between treatments.
Is this the right size for my dog?
This pack is for dogs weighing 2-10kg. Weigh your dog accurately before treatment, as using the wrong pipette size can increase the risk of side effects. Dogs over 10kg need a larger pipette size.
Can I bathe my dog after applying it?
Avoid bathing or swimming in water for 2 days after application, and avoid bathing more than once a week. Emollient shampoos used weekly after application shorten flea protection to about 5 weeks.
Can I use Frontline Spot On on puppies or other pets?
Do not use it on puppies under 8 weeks old or weighing less than 2kg. It is made specifically for dogs, and should not be used on rabbits, as adverse events and even death could occur. Treat other pets in the household with a product suitable for them.
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Fipronil 67mg per 0.67ml pipette (10% w/v).
Other ingredients: Butylhydroxyanisole (E320) 0.02% w/v, butylhydroxytoluene (E321) 0.01% w/v, ethanol, polysorbate 80 (E433), polyvidone K17 and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.
Usage and Instructions
- Weigh your dog accurately. Use one 0.67ml pipette for a dog weighing 2-10kg.
- Hold the pipette upright and tap the narrow part so the contents are in the main body.
- Break back the snap-off top along the scored line.
- Part the coat between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible.
- Place the tip against the skin and squeeze gently to empty the contents directly onto the skin, preferably at two spots, one at the base of the skull and one 2-3cm further back.
Avoid excessive wetting of the hair, which can leave a sticky appearance at the treatment spot. This disappears within 24 hours.
Leave at least 4 weeks between treatments. How often to re-treat should be based on professional advice and your dog's lifestyle. Do not use with other flea products applied directly to the animal. Do not store above 25°C, and keep the pipettes in the original package until use.
Warnings
The following precautions apply:
- Do not use on puppies under 8 weeks old or weighing less than 2kg.
- Do not use on sick animals (for example with systemic disease or fever) or animals recovering from illness.
- Do not use on rabbits, as adverse events and even death could occur. Do not use in other non-target species.
- Do not use if your dog is hypersensitive to fipronil or any of the other ingredients.
- For external use only. Avoid contact with your dog's eyes.
- Apply where your dog cannot lick it off, and stop animals grooming each other until the application site is dry.
- Do not use at the same time as other flea products applied directly to the animal.
- Avoid bathing or immersion in water for 2 days after application.
- Do not let your dog swim in watercourses for 2 days after application. Fipronil may be dangerous for fish and other aquatic organisms, so do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with the product or empty pipettes.
- It can irritate the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Avoid contact with your mouth, skin and eyes. If it gets in your eye, rinse carefully with water. Wash your hands after use and if it touches your fingers, wash with soap and water.
- People allergic to insecticides such as fipronil, or to alcohol, should avoid contact with the product.
- Do not handle treated dogs until the application site is dry. Do not let children play with them until then, and do not let recently treated dogs sleep with owners, especially children. Treating in the early evening is recommended.
- Dispose of used pipettes immediately so children cannot reach them. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the leaflet or label.
- Do not smoke, drink or eat during application.
- The alcohol carrier may damage painted, varnished or other household surfaces and furnishings.
- Flammable.
- Ticks may still attach. Transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded in unfavourable conditions. Remove any remaining ticks with a suitable tick remover.
Side Effects
Side effects in dogs are very rare (fewer than 1 in 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports). They are:
- Application site reactions: skin discoloration, localised hair loss, itching and reddening (transient).
- Generalised itching or hair loss.
- Hypersalivation (excess drooling) and vomiting. If your dog licks the application site, a brief period of hypersalivation may occur.
- Increased sensitivity to light and sound, excitation and unusual behaviour (reversible).
- Depression.
This list is not exhaustive. The risk of side effects may increase with overdosing, so always use the pipette size for your dog's weight. Report any suspected side effects, preferably via your vet.
