Cetraben is also available as a Lotion and an Ointment. The cream is a versatile, easily absorbed option for everyday moisturising. The lotion is lighter, making it suited to larger areas of skin or warmer weather. The ointment is thicker and greasier, giving more intense, longer-lasting moisturisation for very dry or cracked skin, particularly overnight.

Why does Cetraben Emollient Cream carry a fire safety warning?

Cetraben Emollient Cream contains paraffin. If it soaks into clothing, dressings or bedding, that fabric can catch fire more easily and burn more intensely. Keep away from fire, flames and cigarettes while using it, and bear in mind that washing fabric reduces this risk but doesn't remove it completely.

Active ingredients: White soft paraffin BP 13.2% w/w and light liquid paraffin Ph Eur 10.5% w/w.

Other ingredients: Emulsifying wax (containing cetostearyl alcohol and sodium laurilsulfate), cetostearyl alcohol, glycerin, butylparaben, methylparaben (E218), ethylparaben (E214), propylparaben, phenoxetol, citric acid and purified water.

For external use only. Apply to areas of dry skin as often as required, smoothing it gently into the skin. Store below 25°C.

Cetraben Emollient Cream carries the following safety warnings, most important first:

• Keep away from fire, naked flames and cigarettes. The paraffin in this cream can soak into clothing, dressings and bedding, making the fabric catch fire more easily; washing reduces this risk but doesn't remove it completely.
• Contains parabens (butylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben and propylparaben), which may cause allergic reactions, including delayed reactions.
• Contains sodium laurilsulfate (0.49% w/w per application), which may cause stinging, burning or other local skin reactions, and may increase reactions from other products used on the same area.
• Contains cetostearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis.
• Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient in this cream.

Mild allergic skin reactions, such as rash and redness (erythema), have been reported very rarely. Stop using Cetraben Emollient Cream and seek advice if this happens.
