Fipnil Plus Spot-On Solution for Large Dogs 3 x 2.68ml is a veterinary spot-on treatment for dogs weighing 20 to 40 kg. It is used against flea infestations, alone or together with ticks and/or biting lice. Each 2.68 ml pipette is applied directly to the skin, and protection against new flea infestations lasts for 8 weeks.

Which Fipnil Plus pipette size is right for my dog?

The pipette is chosen by bodyweight. The 0.67 ml pipette is for dogs over 2 kg and up to 10 kg, the 1.34 ml pipette for dogs over 10 kg and up to 20 kg, the 2.68 ml pipette for dogs over 20 kg and up to 40 kg, and the 4.02 ml pipette for dogs over 40 kg. This pack contains the 2.68 ml pipette.

How often can I treat my dog with Fipnil Plus?

The minimum interval between treatments is 4 weeks. This is because no safety studies have been carried out on shorter intervals.

Can I bathe my dog after applying Fipnil Plus?

Avoid bathing or immersing your dog in water for 2 days after application, and avoid bathing more often than once a week, as no study has looked at how this affects the product's efficacy. Emollient shampoos can be used before treatment, but weekly use after application reduces flea protection to approximately 5 weeks. Weekly bathing with a 2% chlorhexidine medicated shampoo did not affect efficacy against fleas during a 6 week study.

Can I use Fipnil Plus on a pregnant or nursing dog?

Yes. The product can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Do I need to treat my home as well as my dog?

Fleas from pets often infest the animal's basket, bedding and regular resting areas such as carpets and soft furnishings. In a massive infestation, and at the beginning of the control measures, these should be treated with a suitable insecticide and vacuumed regularly.

Active ingredients: Each 2.68 ml pipette contains fipronil 268.00 mg and (S)-methoprene 241.20 mg.

Other ingredients: Butylhydroxyanisole (E320) 0.54 mg and butylhydroxytoluene (E321) 0.27 mg per pipette. The product is a clear amber solution.

Apply one 2.68 ml pipette to the skin of a dog weighing over 20 kg and up to 40 kg. The minimum treatment interval is 4 weeks.

1. Hold the pipette upright and tap the narrow part so the contents stay in the main body of the pipette.
2. Snap back the tip.
3. Part the coat on the back of the dog at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades, until the skin is visible.
4. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze the pipette several times to empty its contents completely and directly onto the skin in one spot.

Do not overdose.

The following precautions apply, starting with those for the animal:

• Do not use on puppies less than 8 weeks old and/or weighing less than 2 kg.
• Do not use on sick (for example systemic diseases or fever) or convalescent animals.
• Do not use on cats, as this could lead to overdosing. The product is specifically developed for dogs.
• Do not use on rabbits, due to a risk of adverse drug reactions or even death. Use in other non-target species is not recommended.
• Do not use if the dog has known hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the other ingredients.
• Apply where the dog cannot lick the product off, and make sure treated dogs do not lick each other.
• Avoid contact with the dog's eyes.
• The product can cause mucous membrane, skin and eye irritation, so avoid contact with your mouth, skin and eyes. People with known hypersensitivity to insecticides or alcohol should avoid contact with the product.
• If the product gets on your fingers, wash your hands with soap and water. Wash your hands after use.
• If the product gets in the eye, rinse the eye carefully with clean water.
• If the product is accidentally swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet to the doctor.
• Do not handle treated dogs until the application site is dry, and do not let children play with treated dogs until it is dry. Treat dogs in the early evening rather than during the day, and do not let recently treated dogs sleep with their owners, especially children.
• Do not smoke, drink or eat while applying the product.
• Keep pipettes in the original packaging until ready to use, and dispose of used pipettes immediately so that children cannot get access to them.
• A few ticks may still attach, so transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely excluded if conditions are unfavourable.
• Fipronil and (S)-methoprene may adversely affect aquatic organisms. Do not let dogs swim in watercourses for 2 days after application, and do not let unused product or waste enter water courses.

The following effects have been reported:

• Transient skin reactions at the application site (skin discoloration, local hair loss, itching, redness) and general itching or hair loss.
• Excessive salivation, reversible nervous signs (increased sensitivity to stimulation, depression, other nervous signs), vomiting or respiratory symptoms.
• A brief period of excessive salivation may occur, mainly due to the nature of the carrier.
• Temporary changes to the coat, such as clumped or greasy hair, may be noted.
