Numark Heartburn & Indigestion Oral Suspension Peppermint 250ml is a sugar-free and gluten-free oral suspension for relieving heartburn and other symptoms caused by gastric reflux. It is indicated for heartburn, including heartburn during pregnancy, reflux-related indigestion, acid regurgitation, hiatus hernia, reflux oesophagitis and upper abdominal or chest discomfort caused by gastric reflux.
Each 5ml contains 250mg sodium alginate, 133.5mg sodium bicarbonate and 80mg calcium carbonate. The peppermint-flavoured liquid is measured in 5ml spoonfuls and taken after meals and at bedtime. It is intended for adults and children over 12 years. Children under 12 years should only be given this medicine on medical advice.

Each 5ml contains sodium alginate 250mg, sodium bicarbonate 133.5mg and calcium carbonate 80mg.
Excipients:
Carbomer, sodium hydroxide, saccharin sodium, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), butyl parahydroxybenzoate, isopropyl alcohol, peppermint oil, purified water.
Usage and Instructions
For oral use.
Adults, older people and children over 12 years: Take 10ml to 20ml, equivalent to two to four 5ml spoonfuls, after meals and at bedtime.
Do not take more than four 20ml doses, equivalent to 80ml, in 24 hours.
Children under 12 years: Only give this medicine on medical advice.
Shake the bottle before measuring each dose. Leave an interval of at least two hours between taking this medicine and other medicines taken by mouth.
If symptoms do not improve after seven days, speak to a doctor or pharmacist. Do not continue taking this medicine for more than two weeks if symptoms persist.
Do not exceed the stated dose. If you take more than the recommended amount, you may experience abdominal discomfort. Seek medical advice if you are concerned or symptoms persist.
Warnings
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate or any of the other ingredients. This includes ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) and butyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions that can be delayed.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:
- have been advised to follow a low-salt diet
- have heart failure or impaired kidney function
- have high calcium levels in your blood
- have calcium deposits in your kidneys
- have recurrent kidney stones containing calcium.
This medicine contains 286.5mg sodium in each 20ml dose. The maximum daily dose provides an amount of sodium equivalent to 57.2% of the World Health Organization recommended maximum daily intake for an adult. This should be taken into account if you need to restrict your salt intake.
Each 10ml contains 160mg calcium carbonate. Take particular care if you have high blood calcium levels, calcium deposits in the kidneys or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones.
Leave at least two hours between taking this medicine and other medicines by mouth. It may affect how some medicines are absorbed or removed from the body. These include certain antibiotics, iron supplements, digoxin, thyroid hormones, antifungal medicines, antipsychotics, beta-blockers, corticosteroids, lithium, quinidine, bisphosphonates, chloroquine, penicillamine and estramustine. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if you take other medicines.
This medicine can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed and can be used while breastfeeding.
It is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines.
Children under 12 years should only be given this medicine on medical advice.
Stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical help if you develop difficulty breathing, wheezing, hives or another sign of a serious allergic reaction.
