What is pyridoxal-5'-phosphate?
Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5'-P) is a metabolite of vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine. According to the NHS, vitamin B6 helps the body to use and store energy from protein and carbohydrates in food, and helps the body form haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body.
How much vitamin B6 do adults need each day?
The NHS gives about 1.4mg a day for men and 1.2mg a day for women aged 19 to 64, and says most people can get all the vitamin B6 they need from a varied and balanced diet. Each Solgar P-5'-P tablet contains 50mg.
How long does one pack last?
At 1 tablet a day, a pack of 50 tablets lasts 50 days.

Warnings
The following precautions apply:
- The NHS advises not to take more than 10mg of vitamin B6 a day in supplements unless a doctor advises it. Each tablet contains 50mg.
- The NHS says the effect of taking vitamin B6 at doses between 10mg and 200mg a day is unclear, so there is not enough evidence to say how long these doses can be taken safely.
- If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications or have any medical condition, consult your healthcare practitioner before taking this product.
- Food supplements should not be used instead of a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Side Effects
The label states that long-term use of vitamin B6 may lead to mild tingling and numbness.
The NHS says that taking 200mg or more of vitamin B6 a day can lead to a loss of feeling in the arms and legs, known as peripheral neuropathy. This usually improves once the supplements are stopped, but in a few cases, particularly after taking large amounts for more than a few months, the effect can be permanent.
