What 500,000+ customers say about medino:
Description
Suresign UTI Tests 3 Pack contains 3 single-use urine test strips for self-testing at home. Each strip detects leukocytes (white blood cells) and nitrite in urine, two markers that can point to a urinary tract infection (UTI). You get a result in 2 minutes by comparing the strip with the colour chart supplied, which can help you decide whether to speak to a doctor.
Key Features
- Two markers on one strip: Each strip has a leukocyte pad and a nitrite pad, so one dip checks for both.
- Result in 2 minutes: Wait 2 minutes after dipping the strip, then read the result. Do not read results after 3 minutes.
- Colour chart included: You compare each pad with the colour chart provided and read the leukocyte and nitrite results separately.
- 3 single-use strips: Each strip is used once only, and the pack contains 3 strips.
What does a positive result mean?
A positive result means the pad has changed colour: purple for leukocytes, or pink for nitrite. A positive result does not mean both substances have been found. Even if only one is positive, it is most likely that something is wrong in your urine, although the reason may not be a urinary infection. Contact your doctor promptly, and take the instructions with you so they know which test you used.
What if my result is negative but I still have symptoms?
The result is only negative if both pads show a negative result. A negative result does not rule out bacteria in the urine. If you still feel the signs of a UTI or have any other symptoms, contact your doctor to arrange a more thorough examination.
Can medicines or other substances affect the result?
Yes. Drugs containing azo dyes (such as Pyridium, AzoGantrisin and AzoGantanol), nitrofurantoin (such as Microdantin and Furadantin) and riboflavin can colour the urine and cause results that may be read as false. Cephalexin, cephalothin, tetracycline, high levels of oxalic acid, high urinary protein and high glucose can make the leukocyte result artificially low. Ascorbic acid above 30 mg/dL can cause a false negative nitrite result. Nitrite results can also be distorted by antibiotic treatment, a vegetable-free diet, or urine that has been in the bladder for less than 4 hours.
Ingredients
Test strip: A firm plastic strip with two separate reagent areas, one for leukocytes and one for nitrite.
Reagents: The leukocyte pad uses a derivatized pyrazole amino acid ester with a diazonium salt. The nitrite pad uses p-arsanilic acid and 1 N-(1-naphthyl) ethylenediamine.
Usage and Instructions
- Collect urine in a clean glass or plastic cup with no residual detergents or cleaning fluids. Fill the cup with urine. Early morning urine is recommended because it is the most concentrated. Do not let the urine come into contact with toilet water, disinfectant or cleaning substances.
- Open the foil pouch and take out the test strip without touching the test pads. Do the test immediately once the pouch is open.
- Hold the end of the strip farthest from the pads and dip it in the urine for 1-2 seconds, making sure all the test pads are fully immersed.
- Remove the strip and wipe off surplus urine against the rim of the container or with an absorbent material such as a paper towel.
- Lay the strip flat with the test pads facing up and wait 2 minutes. Do not read results after 3 minutes.
- Compare each pad with the colour chart provided and read the leukocyte and nitrite results separately. Ignore colour changes at the edges of the pads.
Women should not do the test during their period or for three days after it, because vaginal fluids in the sample may give a misleading result. If you find it hard to tell colours apart, ask someone to help you read the test.
Keep the test in its sealed pouch until use, do not freeze it, and dispose of the used test according to local regulations.
Warnings
Please read the instructions carefully before testing. The following warnings apply:
- Do not make any important medical decision without first referring to your doctor.
- For self-test in vitro diagnostic use only. For external use only. Not to be taken internally.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Do not use the test if the foil packaging is damaged or has been opened, or after the expiry date.
- Use the test only once. Do not touch the reagent areas of the test strip.
- Follow the stated timing strictly. Colour changes after more than 3 minutes should be disregarded, and failing to follow the instructions may give inaccurate results.
- Pink spots or pink edges on the nitrite pad should not be read as a positive result.
- Substances that colour the urine, including drugs containing azo dyes, nitrofurantoin and riboflavin, may mask or mimic a result.
- A negative nitrite result does not rule out bacteria in the urine. It can occur with infections from organisms that do not convert nitrate to nitrite, when urine has been in the bladder for less than 4 hours, during antibiotic treatment, or when there is no dietary nitrate.
- The test does not react with red blood cells (erythrocytes) or bacteria common in urine."
