Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray is used to relieve nasal congestion, perennial and allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis by reducing excessive nasal secretions and returning swollen blood vessels to their normal size. The active ingredient is xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Who should not use Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray?
Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray should not be used by people who are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients, have had recent neurosurgery, have narrow-angle glaucoma, have chronic nasal inflammation, have an enlarged prostate gland, have a rare tumour of the adrenal gland, or are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors. It should also not be used for children under 12 years old.

Before using Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray, people with an overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, heart or circulatory disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or high blood pressure should consult a doctor. It can also cause sleep disturbances, dizziness, and tremor in very sensitive patients.

Otrivine Congestion Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray should be administered by adults and children over 12 years of age, with one spray in each nostril up to 3 times daily. The nozzle should be inserted into the nostril, spray and breathe in gently, and repeat with the other nostril. The nozzle should be cleaned and dried before replacing the cap after use.

Usage and Instructions
Dosage for Adults and Children over 12 years:
One application in each nostril 2 or 3 times daily.
Not suitable for infants or children under 12 years.
Do not use for more than 7 consecutive days.
Warnings
Not suitable for infants or children under 12 years.
For reasons of hygiene do not use this bottle more than 28 days after first opening it.
Each Otrivine pack should be used by one person only to prevent any cross infection. Do not use after the expiry date given.
Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
If you are pregnant or taking other medicines or are under a doctor's care consult your doctor before using Otrivine.
Do not use continuously for more than seven consecutive days. If symptoms persist consult your doctor.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
Sealed cap. Do not use if seal is absent or broken.
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Burning sensation in the nose or throat.
- Irritation of the nasal lining (eg stinging, itching or soreness).
- Dryness of the nasal lining.
- Headache.
- Feeling sick.
