Panadol 500mg Paracetamol 16 Liquid Capsules contain 500 mg of paracetamol in each soft gelatin capsule. They are used for the symptomatic relief of mild to moderate pain and fever, including headache, migraine, tension headache, toothache, rheumatic pain, back pain, muscle pain, period pain, sore throat, cold and flu aches and pains, and pain due to mild arthritis.
Panadol 500mg Liquid Capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over. The capsules are swallowed whole with water and can be taken when required, leaving at least four hours between doses. Always use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary. A pharmacist can provide advice where appropriate.
Ingredients
Each Panadol 500 mg capsule contains:
- Paracetamol 500 mg
Other ingredients: macrogol 400, purified water, propylene glycol and colloidal anhydrous silica.
Capsule shell: gelatin, sorbitol (liquid, partially dehydrated), purified water and titanium dioxide (E171).
Each capsule also contains:
- Sorbitol liquid 108 mg
- Propylene glycol 20 mg
Usage and Instructions
For the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and/or fever, including headache, migraine, tension headache, toothache, rheumatic pain, back pain, muscle pain, period pain, sore throat, cold and flu symptoms, and pain due to mild arthritis.
- Adults and children aged 16 years and over: 1–2 capsules every 4–6 hours as required. Maximum 8 capsules (4000 mg) in 24 hours.
- Children aged 10–15 years: 1 capsule every 4–6 hours as required. Maximum 4 capsules (2000 mg) in 24 hours.
- Do not give to children under 10 years.
- Swallow whole with water.
- Do not take more frequently than every 4 hours.
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.
Warnings
Do not take if allergic to paracetamol or any ingredient, or with any other paracetamol-containing medicines.
Speak to a doctor before use if you:
- Have liver or kidney problems
- Are underweight or malnourished
- Regularly drink alcohol
- Have severe kidney impairment or sepsis
- Have chronic alcoholism
- Are taking flucloxacillin
- Take anticoagulants such as warfarin regularly
Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine.
Seek medical advice if pain lasts more than 5 days, fever lasts more than 3 days, or symptoms worsen.
Taking too much paracetamol can cause serious delayed liver damage. Seek immediate medical advice following an overdose, even if you feel well.
Side Effects
Stop taking the medicine and seek medical advice immediately if you develop:
- Severe allergic reactions, rash, itching, facial or mouth swelling, or shortness of breath
- Skin peeling, severe rash or mouth ulcers
- Breathing difficulties
- Unexplained bruising or bleeding
- Nausea with sudden weight loss, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Symptoms of metabolic acidosis, such as deep rapid breathing, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting
Very rare serious skin reactions have been reported.
